In early 2003 the
town of Bella Vista asked Tonito Tour's owner Alejandro Duran to include their town in
tourism in the area. The village has a population of only 7 families who support
themselves by raising Llama and growing quinua and other foods on their terraces. Most of
the younger generations were deserting the village and the elders decided that they didn't
want Bella Vista to vanish.
Tonito Tours has built a comfortable lodge with the help of the population of Bella Vista.
The entire complex is made of exposed adobe painted with ocre to maintain the traditional
architecture of the area.
The inside has rooms that are protected by a cover patio. Each room has it's own private
bathroom for each group. This is a step above the rest of the basic accomodations along
the Southwest Bolivia routes.
Bella Vista is now the 1st night's accomodation on the Tonito 3 day trip and on the 2 day
trip. We are proud of our accomplishment. Tonito wants to give our clients this level of
service to create an unforgettable experience in the Salar de Uyuni.
